Having filled a vacant position since May, 2017 when the City of Alameda Health Care District Board of Directors appointed him to serve a remaining term, Boxer & Gerson Partner Dennis Popalardo handily won re-election last week with 69% of the vote in the contested election. He will serve a full two-year term and will be eligible to run again in 2020 if he so chooses.
Popalardo is a certified workers’ compensation specialist with a longtime interest in both health care and local community involvement. In his board capacity, he serves as the board’s community health liaison, from which he focuses on community wellness programs, outreach to schools, and assisting economically disadvantaged residents of the district.

The Health Care District is part of the Alameda Health System, which includes four acute care hospitals, a psychiatric hospital, and wellness centers throughout Alameda County. It traces its roots back to 1864. Alameda Hospital opened in 1894, and continues today as the primary acute care facility for the island city’s 80,000 residents. The district board meets bi-monthly with additional special meetings as needed.
Popalardo has lived in the City of Alameda for 11 years. He joined Boxer & Gerson in 2005 and became a partner in 2012. His community involvement also includes service on the Board of Directors of Kids’ Chance California, which is part of a nationwide organization dedicated to providing need-based scholarships to the children of workers who have been fatally or seriously injured on the job. Boxer & Gerson served as a founding sponsor of the California branch in 2012 and continues to support it today.
