La Raza Centro Legal held their “Gala de Oro” Friday, September 8, 2023, at the San Franciso War Memorial, celebrating 50 years helping the community. La Raza Centro Legal was established in 1973 to provide legal services to the Bay Area’s Latino low-income, monolingual Spanish-speaking and immigrant population. Today they offer immigration services, as well as a Workers’ Rights Program and Senior Law Program.
The evening’s honored speaker was Dolores Huerta, an American labor leader and civil rights activist who co-founded the United Farmworkers Association—now known as the United Farm Workers (UFW)—with Cesar Chavez. She also helped organize the Delano, California, grape strike in 1965 and was the lead negotiator in the workers’ contract tcreated after the strike.
