B&G Quartet Attends Women Lawyers Dinner

Tiffany Maria Deirdre Dikla Women Lawyer - Injury Attorney - Boxer & Gerson Attorneys at Law, LLPA quartet of lawyers from Boxer & Gerson enjoyed the short hop over to Jack London Square earlier this month to attend the Women Lawyers of Alameda County (WLAC) 2018 Judges’ Dinner at Scott’s Seafood. Tiffany Speers, Maria Grasso, Deirdre Mochel and Dikla Dolev (left to right above) are all part of the firm’s Workers’ Compensation Practice Group.

Keynote speaker for the evening was Marina Park, CEO at the Girl Scouts of Northern California since 2007. Her connection to the legal community she addressed at the WLAC dinner is by virtue of her previous 25-year career at a New York City law firm, the last eight of which she served as managing partner.

The Boxer & Gerson contingent was particularly pleased to support the WLAC with their attendance in light of former colleague Leslie Levy, who serves on the organization’s board of directors. Levy served Boxer & Gerson as a partner for many years before joining Jean Hyams, another former B&G partner, and two other attorneys in an all-women’s firm specializing in employment law in Oakland.

The WLAC was founded in 1980 in order to support women who were just beginning to enter the legal profession in significant numbers and to encourage then-Governor Jerry Brown (in his first two terms before his reelection in 2010) to appoint more women to the judiciary. He proceeded to do so through all four of his terms. As of most recent data from 2016, women comprise 33.5% of the judiciary in California, up some 10% from a decade earlier and continuing a sustained increase over recent decades.
