Boxer & Gerson Associate Attorneys Deirdre Mochel and Tiffany Speers teamed up last week to make a presentation on California workers’ compensation procedures, rights and benefits to a group of some 200 people at the annual convention of the Committee for Recognition of Nursing Achievement (CRONA). The event was held at the Fremont Hills Country Club in Los Altos Hills.
CRONA is an independent union that represents nurses at Stanford Health Care and the Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital. The convention brought together the union’s representatives and alternates, committee members, and executive board members. Mochel and Speers’s presentation was followed by a lively question-and-answer period.
“It was a very full room of union leaders who are there to get as much solid information as possible to take back and share with their members,” said Mochel. “It was great to be able to talk with so many of them in person and address their concerns about workplace injuries. People often don’t grasp how challenging modern nursing is. There are a lot of stressors that can lead to both traumatic and cumulative injuries.”
Stanford Health Care is one of the world’s premier health systems encompassing hospitals, urgent care clinics, physician groups, research facilities and more than 400 speciality clinics across the Bay Area and beyond. The system was founded in 1959 when Stanford Medical School was relocated from San Francisco to Palo Alto. The Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital opened in 1991 as part of the system’s continuing expansion.
