After a successful venture honing its barbecue skills in the inaugural Teamsters Horsemen Chapter 7 West BBQ Cook-off, Bike & Car Show last summer, Boxer & Gerson’s vaunted Barbecue Team will return to the scene at Swiss Park in Newark next month. The firm will again serve as a sponsor and participate directly in the Second Annual rendition of the charity event.
Last year, the Teamsters-affiliated non-profit group of motorcycle enthusiasts raised more than $10,000 from the event for the Childhood Leukemia Foundation. The beneficiary this year will be the Autism Speaks Foundation.
The cook-off will pit a number of barbecue teams and Teamster friends against each other. Participant teams are invited to put forth their best versions of pork ribs, chicken or tri-tip. Innovative sauces and secret cooking methods are highly encouraged. Ribbons and cash prizes go to the top-placing teams, and attendees pay for tasting tickets so they can stroll and sample the offerings at their leisure while also enjoying the shiny motorcycles and cars that will be on display throughout the day.
Says Horsemen Chapter 7 President Ray Torres, a business agent with Teamsters Local 853: “Everybody is welcome! Come show off your cooking skills, eat some food, listen to music and win a prize— all for the sake of kids!”
Raffles and live music will add further spice to the family-friendly event, which takes place on Saturday, August 11. The festivities begin at 10 a.m. in Swiss Park, 5911 Mowry Avenue, Newark.
